‘Global and Regional History’ Master’s Programme Seeks Future Historians, Anthropologists, and More
In 2020, HSE - St. Petersburg is launching a new master's programme in ‘Global and Regional History’, which will replace the ‘Applied and Interdisciplinary History’ Programme. HSE–St. Petersburg Political Science Programmes Receive International Accreditation
The Central Evaluation and Accreditation Agency (ZEvA) has accredited two HSE – St. Petersburg programmes in political science: the Bachelor’s Programme ‘Political Science and World Politics’ and the Master’s Programme ‘Comparative Politics of Eurasia’. The accreditation, which lasts six years without additional conditions, affirms that the programmes meet international education quality standards.
Learning Against Boredom
Eva Guerrero Forteza was born in Mallorca, Spain, where her mother, father and sister still live. Eva has a curious mind and a ‘wish from place to place to roam’, as the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin wrote. After earning a degree in physical therapy, she worked in Spain, New York, and then in France. But, Eva notes, she has always dreamt of learning Russian and living in Russia. That’s why she first came to St. Petersburg to study Russian, and, in August 2019, enrolled in HSE’s Master’s programme ‘Socioeconomic and Political Development of Modern Asia’ in Moscow.
‘The Professors Are Not Strictly Academic—They Are Also Practicing Professionals’
For students interested in pursuing careers in international law or economic integration, HSE University’s Faculty of Law offers the Master’s Programme ‘Law of International Trade, Finance and Economic Integration’. Previously taught in both Russian and English, the programme is now taught in English only. Miloud Lacheheb (Algeria) is a second-year student in the ‘Applied Statistics with Network Analysis’ Master’s Programme. After earning his bachelor’s in management in Algeria and a masters’ degree in Economics in Malaysia, he decided to earn a second master’s degree and study data analysis and statistics at HSE University in Moscow.
HSE Expands Offerings in Asian Studies with Opening of Joint Department with RAS Institute of Oriental Studies
HSE has been offering courses in Asian Studies for 10 years now with numerous departments and programmes producing research in the field and offering in-depth courses. In December 2019, the HSE Academic Council approved the opening of a Joint Department with the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IOS RAS). How will the IOS RAS transfer its vast experience and resource to its new home at HSE? And what traditions in the study and teaching of Asian studies already exist at HSE?
‘I Like That the Professors Are Invested in Our Learning’
The master’s programme in Governance of Science, Technology, and Innovation offered by HSE ISSEK aims to equip students with skills that are in short supply in the private and public sectors. Courses and internship work give students a global perspective on science, technology, and innovation in addition to showing them how to be effective managers and conduct evidence-based assessment. Students also have the option of pursuing a double degree with a partner university in Europe and Asia. Statistical Learning Theory Olympiad Now Accepting Applications
Students who wish to compete in the Statistical Learning Theory Olympiad held jointly by HSE University and Skoltech may apply until March 16. Winners of the Olympiad automatically gain admittance to the joint HSE-Skoltech Master’s Programme in Statistical Learning Theory. HSE News Service spoke with last year’s winners about their experience competing in the Olympiad and now studying in the joint programme.
